Nagpur: Devotees across Nagpur celebrated Buddha Purnima, the birth anniversary of Lord Buddha, with great devotion and joy, participating in various religious ceremonies and rituals. This important day is observed by Buddhists worldwide. The day sends Lord Gautama Buddha’s message of truth, non-violence, harmony, and love for all living beings.

This year, Buddha Jayanti is on Thursday, May 23. This year marks the 2586th birth anniversary of Gautam Buddha.

A large number of people gathered at the Deekshabhoomi which is beautifully decorated for the holy occasion of Buddha Purnima, on Thursday to pay their respects on the occasion.

Devotees participated in a religious procession “Let’s Walk Towards Buddha,” Dhamma Rally during Buddha Purnima celebrations in Nagpur.

The auspicious festival of Buddha Purnima marks the birth of Prince Siddhartha Gautama, who became the Gautama Buddha and founded Buddhism. The sacred festival is also known as Buddha’s birthday, Buddha Day or Buddha Jayanti. Primarily a Buddhist festival, the day is celebrated in most of South, Southeast and East Asia. It is observed on the full moon day of the Hindu month of Vaisakha, which falls in April or May.
