Nagpur: A Deputy Engineer of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) ended his life by hanging to the iron angles in the cooling room of BSNL’s Regional Telecom Training Centre (RTTC), Bhaskar Bhawan, near TV Tower, Seminary Hill s in the small hours of Thursday. However, the suicide remained a mystery as no note was found citing reasons for his extreme step.
The deceased, Ganesh Pandurang Barabde (50), resident of Flat No.SA-232, Shrikrishna Apartment, Hindustan Colony, Amravati Road, was attached to RTTC of BSNL. Barabde was assigned the job of arranging Group D staff duties, carry out all works assigned to him by his superior Engineer (Administration) from time to time, allotment of staff quarters at the training centre, and procurement of stationary items for staff and trainees. Barabde came to office around 10 am on Wednesday.He left office around 1 pm by informing his superior Prasad Supekar that he was going to the bank. As he did not return to office till evening and was not receiving the calls on his mobile phone, his colleagues contacted his wife Bhavna to enquire whether he was at home.
Bhavna too was shocked as her husband was untraceable. On Wednesday night, Bhavna lodged a missing report at Ambazari Police Station. In the meantime, his colleagues at RTTC started tracking his cellphone.In the late night, they succeeded in tracking his mobile location. As the location was RTTC, they again went to office. They contacted Gittikhadan Police as the RTTC falls under their jurisdiction. Staff from Gittikhadan visited the training centre and found the exact location in the cooling room which was locked from inside. Cops forced open the door and found Barabde hanging. After preliminary probe, Barabde’s body was sent to Mayo Hospital for autopsy.
Cops have registered a case of accidental death and launched an in-depth investigation in the mysterious suicide by the BSNL Deputy Engineer.
