According to police, Kakde was standing by the roadside and talking on his mobile phone when the juvenile arrived at the spot on a motorcycle. What began as a verbal altercation over money quickly escalated into a deadly attack.

In a fit of rage and with an alleged intention to kill, the juvenile reportedly pulled out a sharp knife concealed at his waist and repeatedly stabbed Kakde on his waist, chest and neck, leaving him bleeding profusely before fleeing the scene. Bystanders rushed the critically injured Kakde to Medical Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. Police have detained a juvenile.

Second murder

Less than an hour later, another killing was reported in the Gittikhadan area, near Takli Police Lines, where Harshu alias Guddu Pandey (38) was beaten to death by a group of assailants over an old rivalry. The attackers allegedly shouted threats and struck the victim on the head with a weapon before escaping. Pandey was declared dead at Mayo Hospital.

The deceased, Harshu alias Guddu Shivanandan Pandey (38), a resident of Kamgar Nagar, was allegedly attacked by Bunty alias Burhan Sheikh, a pan stall owner from Awasthi Nagar Chowk, along with his associates, over an old personal dispute.

According to the complaint filed by Milan alias Bunty Vinayak Wankhede (36), a resident of Prashant Nagar, Mankapur, Pandey and the accused had earlier engaged in a heated argument and exchange of abuses. Later that night, while Pandey was speaking on the phone a short distance away, the accused and his accomplices arrived in a vehicle.

Eyewitnesses told police that the attackers shouted “Take out weapons! Take out weapons!” before launching a brutal assault, striking Pandey on the head with a weapon with the clear intention to kill. The assailants fled immediately after the attack. Pandey was rushed to Mayo Hospital, where doctors declared him dead during treatment.

Gittikhadan Police have registered a case under Sections 103(1) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against Bunty alias Burhan Sheikh and his associates. Further investigation is in progress.

The twin murders, both occurring late at night in public areas, have sparked fear among residents and renewed calls for stricter policing and night patrols across Nagpur.
