The mortal ashes of senior BJP leader Gopinath Munde was brought here on Sunday morning. His asthikalash was kept at BJP’s party office in Ganeshpeth where many BJP leaders including Union Surface Transport and Shipping Minister Nitin Gadkari, who is also handing additional charge of the Rural Ministry left vacant by Munde’s demise, turned up to pay homage to the departed soul.

Airing his sentiments, Gadkari said that he has been following Munde when he (Gadkari) was the president of Bharatiya Janata Yuwa Morcha. Recalling Munde’s contribution towards BJP, he said, “He was an avid leader who worked towards the party’s cause and made every effort to strengthen BJP in Maharashtra and entire nation. With his sudden demise, the BJP as well as Maharashtra has suffered heavy loss. At this moment I pray to almighty may he rest in peace.”
