Nagpur:
Annoyed by the unnecessary controversy created by Congress leaders after their crushing defeat in Municipal Corporation and Zilla Parishad polls, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legal cell co-convenor Adv Vinod Tiwari has served a legal notice to MPCC President Ashok Chavan, former CM Narayan Rane, and Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Vice-President Rahul Gandhi for trying to subvert democratic mandate.

The legal notice issued on behalf of a Zilla Parishad member Minakshi Bolenwar has charged Congress leaders with making highly defamatory, irresponsible and mischievous statements against the democratically elected candidates belonging to BJP in the local bodies elections for Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti and Municipal Corporations in the Maharashtra to tarnish image of BJP.

This slanderous campaign is aimed at maligning the image of the elected representatives of BJP by leveling false, untrue and misleading allegations of tempering of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and other imaginary charges of use of power and corrupt practices said to be adopted by BJP and its candidates in the election process. Before and during election process, there was not a whisper about such tampering or manipulation of EVMs, the notice claimed while reminding Congress that entire election process is handled by autonomous Election Commission over which Government has no control. By raising such baseless doubts, the Congress is denying the people’s mandate, the notice claimed.

The notice charged them with levelling these allegations only out of frustration and humiliating defeat of Congress candidates. The notice has warned the Congress leaders to face civil and criminal consequences for making malicious, defamatory and highly objectionable and irresponsible statements and demanded an unconditional apology.
