Panaji/Nagpur: The BJP-led coalition government in Goa has dropped Gandhi Jayanti from its list of commercial and industrial holidays for 2015, state Congress spokesperson Durgadas Kamat said on Saturday.

Quoting the official gazette listing, Kamat said there is no holiday for industrial workers on October 2, which was a commercial and industrial holiday till last year. He said other holidays like Babasaheb Ambedkar’s birth anniversary, Ganesh Chaturthi, Independence Day, are untouched. There is no change in public holidays too.

Alleging the BJP’s policy is dictated by RSS, Kamat said in the past the Manohar Parrikar-led government had also made the October 2 holiday a working/cleanliness day. “But public outcry forced it to rescind its decision even for holidays on St Francis Xavier’s feast day, Good Friday and Mahashivratri.”

He wondered whether Nathuram Godse’s birth anniversary would be a holiday.
