Nagpur/New Delhi: Selfies can turn out to be dangerous, if they are misused. Wanawadi police in Pune nabbed a cook on Friday for morphing selfies he had taken with his 25-year-old fomer employer, and blackmailing her.
Girish Sugandh, 35, who has earlier worked in three hotels in Mumbai, allegedly uploaded those selfies on social networking sites and demanded a ransom of Rs 2 lakh from the girl.
The initial statement of the victim, a 25-year-old software engineer at a Magarpatta-based multinational IT company, revealed that she had had a tiff with Sugandh in December last year when she had hired him as a chef for her restaurant, which she later converted into an ice-cream parlour.
The police said, “On March 5, the victim noticed that Sugandh was drunk at work. When she reprimanded him, he tried to misbehave with her and she slapped him.”
Sugandh, on being fired, misused the CCTV footage and selfies they had taken during his tenure.
The anti-extortion cell of the crime branch, led by inspector Anil Patil, nabbed Girish Shyam Sugandh (35), who hails from Nagpur, when he came to collect the cash near the Pune railway station. “We have seized the cell phone with the obscene clips from him,” Patil said.
Sugandh appeared before the court of judicial magistrate and granted bail on surety of Rs 15,000.
