The incident of abusing and thrashing of GMCH doctors at the hands of a patient and his relatives took a bizarre turn when son of the patient charged the doctors of forcibly detaining him in the Emergency Ward. Now, the police have booked the doctors themselves for their high-handed action.

According to police, the patient Natthuji Chirkutrao Durudkar (71), resident of Thakre Layout, behind Shivkrupa Decoration, Rameshwari Ring Road, Nagpur, accompanied by his son Makarand (33), had arrived at the Emergency Ward of GMCH at about 2215 hours on Sunday. Dr Pawan Parasnath Singh (26), staying in MARD Hostel in the premises of Government Medical College and Hospital, was on duty at Emergency Ward. After a check-up, Dr Pawan Singh and his associates sent the patient to ICCU Ward 24 for ECG and further check-up purpose. However, when the patient Natthuji Durudkar and his son Makarand went to ICCU Ward 24, they were informed of no availability of ECG paper in the Ward. Subsequently, the patient and Makarand returned to Emergency Ward. An argument ensued between Makarand and the doctors over the matter. However, when Makarand demanded return of patient’s case papers, the doctors told him to first sign on treatment papers. But Makarand refused to sign. The refusal on the part of Makarand enraged the doctors and they started abusing him and also threatened to beat him. Later, the doctors forcibly took Makarand to a room and detained him with force for a considerable time. However, after his release from the Emergency Ward room, Makarand approached Ajni Police Station and lodged a complaint against the doctors.

Ajni PSI Dhobe has now booked the accused doctors under Sections 342, 504, 323, 506, 34 of the IPC. Further probe is underway.

It may be recalled, Nagpur Today earlier today flashed a report titled: “Patient, his relatives abuse, thrash doctors on duty at GMCH’s Emergency Ward, booked” which stated yet another incident of scuffle between doctors and patients and their relatives has come to the fore. A young doctor and his associates working at GMCH’s Emergency Ward were abused and thrashed by the patient and his relatives on Sunday night. According to police, Dr Pawan Parasnath Singh (26), staying in MARD Hostel in the premises of Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), was on duty at Casualty or Emergency Ward on Sunday. At about 2215 hours, the patient Natthuji Durudkar, accompanied by two relatives, arrived at the Emergency Ward. After a check-up, Dr Pawan Singh and his associates sent the patient to ICCU Ward 24 for ECG and further check-up purpose. However, when the patient Natthuji Durudkar and his relatives went to ICCU Ward 24, they were informed of no availability of ECG paper in the Ward. Outraged over the lacuna, the patient and his relatives returned to Emergency Ward and started arguing with the doctors. The situation took the worst turn when the accused resorted to abusing and thrashing Dr Singh and his associates with fisticuffs and kicks and creating hurdles in Government duty. Ajni PSI Dhobe, on the basis a complaint lodged by Dr Singh and his associates, has booked the accused patient Natthuji Durudkar and his relatives under Sections 353, 323, 34 of the IPC and is investigating the matter further.
