Bike-borne goons rob man of Rs 8.50 lakh at gun-point in Nagpur’s Civil Lines

Nagpur: In a shocking incident, Yogesh Choudhary, a 47-year-old senior employee of Nair Sons, was robbed of Rs 8.50 lakh cash at gun-point, on late Saturday evening, in the Ambazari Police Station area. The incident occurred near the Ladies Club Lawn when Choudhary was passing through the area in his car.

According to DCP Zone II Rahul Madne, Choudhary had collected the cash from Itwari and was on his way to the office in Ram Nagar to deposit it. As Choudhary passed by the Ladies Club Lawn in his car, two youths came from behind and blocked his car. They tried to smash the windshield of the car with a stone. As their attempt failed, they threatened Choudhary and his driver with a gun. Immediately, the driver stopped the car and fled the scene. Choudhary, too, started to run away from the spot with the cash bag. However, the accused chased him and snatched the bag from Choudhary when he fell down while running. They quickly fled the scene on their two-wheeler, DCP Madne said.

Choudhary, immediately, alerted the police. A team from Ambazari Police Station and Crime Branch reached the spot and started investigation. Ambazari Police have registered a case under Section 392 of the Indian Penal Code against the unidentified robbers. Senior Police Inspector Gajanan Kalyankar said that the entire incident has been recorded in the CCTV camera in the area. Based on the footage, the accused would be arrested soon, he added.

Stolen bikes were used in the robbery:

The investigation in the Civil Lines robbery case has revealed that three persons were involved, and they used two motorcycles to commit the robbery. One of the two-wheelers was stolen from Imambada area in 2010, while a bogus number was used for the second two-wheeler.

A police official said that the accused are being traced on the basis of CCTV footage. Their pictures have been circulated among the police personnel and informers have also been activated, he said, adding that the accused had planned the robbery well in advance and were aware of Choudhary’s movements.
