
Nagpur: In a shocking incident of violent assault, a 47-year-old man was brutally attacked by four persons in Ambazari area over an old dispute, leaving him seriously injured.
The victim, Sachin Mukunda Manerao (47), a resident of Sudam Nagari, was riding pillion on a moped with his friend on Sunday around 11 am. When they reached near a government hospital in Sudam Nagari under Ambazari police limits, the accused allegedly intercepted and launched a deadly attack.
According to police, the main accused, Gajanan Babulal Battalwar (50), attacked the victim with a knife, aiming at his neck with an intention to kill him. However, Manerao managed to dodge the blow, resulting in a grazing injury to his throat.
Due to the sudden assault, the moped lost balance and the victim fell on the road. Taking advantage of the situation, the other accused joined in the attack. Bhupendra Hanumant Battalwar (23) allegedly stabbed the victim near his eye, while Pawan Rajesh Battalwar (32) assaulted him with an iron pipe on his shoulder and chest. Another accused, Raju Ram Kumbhare (32), thrashed him with fists.
Police said the accused acted in concert and attacked the victim with an intention to kill him, stemming from a previous enmity.
The seriously injured victim was rushed to Mayo Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment.
Based on the complaint, Ambazari Police have registered an offence under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Arms Act and Maharashtra Police Act. Acting swiftly, police traced and arrested all the accused. Further investigation is underway.
