Bid to loot Syndicate Bank’s ATM in Friends Colony gets foiled

Nagpur: In all probability the repeat of ATM looting on the lines of three ATMs that were smashed and looted of cash over Rs 25 lakh in a single day in city areas in December last. However, this time, the attempt to strike at the ATM of a nationalized bank got foiled due to unspecified reason.

In the instant case, two unidentified desperadoes planned to strike at Syndicate Bank’s ATM situated at Plot No. 22, Friends Colony Branch, Katol Road. The miscreants entered the ATM between 0200 and 0240 hours of Sunday and smashed it. The goons later snapped the electric supply and tried to open the safe with cutters. However, for reasons better known to the miscreants, the goons developed cold feet and deserted their attempt to loot the ATM.

Based on a complaint lodged by a bank employee, Mankapur PSI M A Godbole has booked the two unidentified desperadoes under Sections 379, 511, 427 of IPC and mounted a search to apprehend the goons.

It is pertinent to recall that on December 16 night, a gang of robbers had targeted three ATMs of different nationalized banks and collectively looted staggering cash of over Rs 24 lakh in a single day. The gang of robbers struck at Syndicate Bank’s ATM situated on Wadi-Khadgaon Road and laid their hands on Rs 2.83 lakh. The second robbery took place at Central Bank of India’s ATM in Wanadogri area of city. The miscreants successfully smashed the ATM machine and cleaned it with hopping cash of Rs 16.99 lakh. The third target of the gang on looting spree was ATM of UCO Bank in Hingna. The well-equipped desperadoes broke this ATM as well and decamped with Rs 4.71 lakh.
