Nagpur: Beware of drinking at Melghat Tiger Reserve if you are heading to this destination to cherish some weekend revelry. The Melghat Tiger Reserve (MTR) in Amravati district has launched a crackdown against drunk and unruly tourists. On Sunday, the tiger reserve staff booked five youths entering the tiger reserve in an inebriated condition.

During medical tests, they were confirmed to be heavily drunk. “We have imposed a fine of Rs50,000 on the tourists. It is a non-bailable offence and there is also provision of seven years imprisonment under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972. We have kept this option open,” officials said.

They said many tourists enter Melghat for merrymaking. They throw liquor bottles inside the core area, failing to understand that these may prove to be dangerous for wild animals.
