BEST OUT OF WASTE activity at Dental College

The Government Dental College recently conducted a noteworthy BEST OUT OF WASTE activity, showcasing an innovative approach to sustainability by utilizing empty colouring buckets, previously used for painting the college premises, as plant containers. This unique initiative, organized by the NSS Unit, Nature Club and Department of Public Health Dentistry aimed to promote environmental awareness, encourage recycling and enhance the college’s aesthetics.

Dean of college Dr Abhay Datarkar who emphasized the importance of trees in combating climate change and the significance of recycling materials. The event saw active participation from 53 First BDS students, 9 Interns of Public Health Dentistry and 14 faculty members of College.

Together, they planted a variety of tree saplings, in the prepared buckets. A dedicated team of volunteers students has been assigned to water and monitor the plants regularly. The gardening team will oversee the maintenance, ensuring the saplings thrive and contribute to the college’s green cover. The plantation drive not only enhanced the aesthetic appeal of the college but also instilled a sense of environmental responsibility among the students. This activity serves as a reminder of the collective responsibility towards nature and the impact of small, creative steps in promoting environmental conservation.

The activity was inaugurated by the Dean Dr Abhay Datarkar, highlighting the importance of tree plantation and sustainability. A brief introduction was given about the environmental benefits of trees and the significance of reusing materials by Dr Shilpa Warhekar, Associate Professor from Department of Public Health Dentistry. Dr Khadikar, Dr Kalaskar, Dr Sachin Khatri, Dr Chauhan, Dr Motghare, NSS Incharge Dr Vandana Gadve, Nature club Incharge Dr Damyanti Walkey, Dr Noopur Kokane, Dr Aniket Dhote , Dr Jyoti Manchanda, Dr Shweta Gangotri were also present.
