Nagpur: A new police station building at Mohpa in Kalmeshwar taluka was formally inaugurated on Saturday, August 8, by Maharashtra Revenue Minister and Nagpur district Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, marking an important addition to the policing infrastructure in Nagpur Rural district.
The Mohpa police station was established with the approval of the state government and became operational for public service on June 13, 2026. Although the police station had already started functioning, its newly constructed building was officially inaugurated on August 8 in the presence of senior police officers, elected representatives and local residents.

After the inauguration and unveiling ceremony, Bawankule and other dignitaries inspected the newly constructed police station building and reviewed the facilities available for police personnel as well as citizens approaching the station.
The ceremony was attended by Shyamkumar Barve, MP, Dr Rajiv Potdar, MLC, Ashish Deshmukh, Saoner MLA, Madhav Charjan, Mohpa Municipal Council President, Harssh Poddar, Senior Superintendent of Police, Nagpur Rural, Anil Mhaske, Additional Superintendent of Police, Sagar Kharde, Assistant Superintendent of Police and Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Saoner, Ishwar Hanwate, and the officer-in-charge of Mohpa police station, along with other senior police officials, public representatives, police patils from different parts of Nagpur Rural district and local citizens.
Bawankule reviews Saoner rape-murder investigation
During the programme, Bawankule also reviewed the investigation into the rape and murder of an unidentified woman in Saoner.
Senior Superintendent of Police Harsh Poddar made a detailed presentation before the Guardian Minister explaining how the case was investigated and eventually detected. The presentation highlighted the role of MARVEL, Maharashtra Research and Vigilance for Enhanced Law Enforcement, an artificial intelligence-based system used by the police to assist in identifying and tracing the unidentified accused.
The investigation also involved the effective use of technical and scientific evidence, along with coordinated efforts by the investigation team.
Bawankule praised the Nagpur Rural Police for successfully cracking the serious case and specifically appreciated the use of artificial intelligence, technical surveillance and scientific evidence in the investigation.
The Guardian Minister also reviewed the overall crime situation in Nagpur Rural district and appreciated the police force for the reported decline in various categories of crime.
He praised the preventive measures undertaken by the police to curb criminal activities, as well as the improvement in the rate of detection of offences.
Particular appreciation was expressed for preventive action taken against serious and organised criminal activities under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) and the Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities Act (MPDA).
Bawankule stressed the importance of effective policing, timely detection of serious offences and the use of modern technology and scientific investigation methods to strengthen law enforcement.
The inauguration programme was held at Gopal Auditorium, Mohpa, in an enthusiastic and celebratory atmosphere. The event also provided an opportunity for the police department and local representatives to highlight the importance of strengthening policing infrastructure and improving accessibility to police services for residents of the surrounding rural areas.
The operationalisation of the Mohpa police station is expected to strengthen policing and improve the response mechanism for residents of Mohpa and adjoining areas of Kalmeshwar taluka.
