The Basketball Federation of India (BFI) will conduct a two-day talent hunt cum training program for Vidarbha players in Nagpur on February 17 and 18.

Nagpur District Basketball Association (NDBA) in collaboration with the BFI will be organizing this first-of-its kind coaching clinic at Shankar Nagar based Dharampeth Krida Mandal (DKM) courts.

National basketball head coach Scott Flemming of the USA will be in the city to guide selected players in four sessions wherein the experienced American coach will recommend players to the BFI. If recommended, the talented hoopsters from Vidarbha will be picked for the national camps of BFI held in various age categories.

The programme is an initiative of the BFI to identify talented hoopsters at the grass root level. The special clinic was materialized due to the efforts of CEO of the BFI Roopam Harish Sharma, NDBA president Sandip Joshi, treasurer of Maharashtra State Basketball Association (MSBA) Anup Rajurkar and DKM officials.

Flemming brings along with him over 30 years of collegiate and professional coaching experience in the United States. During his career, Flemming has earned two national coach of the year awards. Prior to joining BFI, Flemming was the assistant coach of the Texas Legends in the NBA Development League. He has also served as the men’s head coach and athletic director at Mount Vernon Nazarene University in Ohio.

This will be for the first time city hoopsters will get an opportunity to showcase their talent to a head coach of the Indian basketball team.
