Nagpur: A tense situation unfolded in Quetta Colony late Sunday night after a young man allegedly attempted to kidnap a girl by forcibly entering her residence along with three accomplices. The incident sparked widespread panic and led to a massive public outcry, with hundreds of residents gathering outside the Lakadganj Police Station demanding strict action.
As per police sources, the accused—who hails from the Gittikhadan area—had previously been acquainted with the girl. However, she had recently distanced herself from him due to his inappropriate behavior.
At around 9 pm on Sunday, the accused reportedly arrived in Quetta Colony in a red car accompanied by three others. While his accomplices waited downstairs, he proceeded to the girl’s apartment. Upon the girl’s brother opening the door, the accused allegedly pushed him aside and barged into the house.
The girl’s mother attempted to intervene, but was reportedly assaulted. The accused further claimed that policemen were waiting downstairs, seemingly to intimidate the family. He then tried to forcibly drag the girl with him.
Hearing the girl’s screams, local residents rushed to the house. The sudden commotion prompted the three accomplices to flee the scene, leaving the main accused behind. Enraged residents apprehended the youth, roughed him up, and handed him over to the police.
Following the incident, a crowd of nearly 500 to 600 people marched to Lakadganj Police Station demanding stringent legal action. The atmosphere remained tense for over an hour as residents sought assurances from the authorities regarding their safety.
Local MLA Krishna Khopde also visited the police station and engaged with senior police officials. He questioned the deteriorating law and order situation and called for decisive action against the accused.
“We are registering a case and taking the matter very seriously,” a senior police officer told News Media. An investigation is currently underway.
