NewDelhi/Nagpur: Even as the kerfuffle caused by revelations that External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj had recommended ex-IPL honcho Lalit Modi for travel documents to the British authorities yet to die down, there is more trouble brewing for the BJP.
A senior party member and Lok Sabha MP, Kirti Azad coming out in defence of Ms. Swaraj has made broad hints to a feud within the party ranks.
In his tweets, Mr. Azad has referred to a party insider, having a role to play in leaking information about the Minister’s recommendation and her family’s association with Mr. Modi, who is wanted in India on charges of money laundering.
Mr. Azad, on Twitter, claimed that it was a ‘snake in the grass’ and a media personality who are conspiring against Ms. Swaraj.
“#BJPs #AsteenKaSaanp & #Arnab conspire against BJP leaders. Guess the snake? IStandWithSushmaSwaraj @SushmaSwaraj,” he tweeted, giving rise to speculation about the BJP leader who was being hinted at.
While her senior BJP colleagues Home Minister Rajanth Singh and Parliamentary Affairs Minister M Venkaiah Naidu have already come out in support of Ms. Swaraj, Mr. Azad’s tweets are being perceived as an indication of internal feud in the BJP.
Earlier, Mr. Azad is known to have expressed his differences with Finance Minister Arun Jaitley over cricketing issues. The two have been at logger heads over control of the Delhi and District Cricket Association. In 2013 along with veteran cricketer Bishan Singh Bedi, he had sought Mr. Jaitley’s resignation as president DDCA for “ruining Delhi’s cricket”.
