ASI of RPF arrested for threatening passenger and fleecing Rs 500

In another act of high-handedness, an Assistant Sub Inspector of Police attached to Railway Protection Force in South Eastern Central Railway threatened an innocent passenger of implicating him in a false case and demanded money. He took the money too, but the passenger narrated the story to the staff of the Railway Police Force who nabbed the accused Assistant Sub Inspector and registered a case against him.

According to sources, the victim is identified as Islam Sheikh s/o Shahadat Sheikh aged 28 years and a resident of Room No 71, Indira Nagar Slums, Mandala, Mumbai West.

The accused identified as Narayan Namdev Popale aged 57 years and working as Assistant Sub Inspector of Police attached to Railway Protection Force in Central Railway.

On August 21, 2016, after passing Kamptee Railway Station, was eating Gutkha in the coach. The accused Assistant Sub Inspector of Police nabbed the passenger and threatened of registering case and demanded Rs 500. Fear of getting into legal hassles made the passenger give Rs 500 to the Assistant Sub Inspector of Police. This fleecing of Rs 500/- by the Assistant Sub Inspector of Police took place on August 21, 2016 at 11:50 am on Mumbai-Howrah Express Train No.12809 in Coach No S-9 in running train.

The accused Assistant Sub Inspector of Police was part of the Railway Police Staff of South Eastern Central Railway escort party who was escorting the passengers in the train. When the complainant reported what had happened to the on-duty Railway Police Force staff. The Railway Police Force staff swung into action and nabbed the accused. They took the accused to Gondia Police Station with the complainant. The offence was registered under Section 384 of IPC in Railway Police Station Gondia and they brought the case files by hand to Nagpur and a case was registered in Railway Police Station, Itwari on August 22, 2016 at 01:19 pm.
