Banwarilal Purohit takes oath of Governor of Assam

Senior BJP leader Banwarilal Purohit took oath as Governor of Assam on Monday, August 22, 2016.

Chief Justice Ajit Singh had sworn in Banwarilal Purohit as Governor in Raj Bhawan situated in Guwahati. Banwarilal Purohit is the 29th Governor of Assam.

Newly appointed Governor of Assam Banwarilal Purohit reacted after he got the news of his appointment and said that that Assam is the gateway to North-East and therefore it is an important state. He assured that he will discharge his responsibility in a non-partisan manner.

From December 2014, Governor of Nagaland P B Acharya was given additional charge of Governor of Assam.
On the recommendation of Central Government President of India Pranab Mukherjee had appointed Banwarilal Purohit as Governor of Assam.

Banwarilal Purohit had left for Guwahati on August 19, 2016 for the oath taking ceremony.

Chief Minister of Assam Sarvanand Sonewal, other ministers, MLAs, Legislators and their family members attended the oath taking ceremony.

Native of Nagpur, Banwarilal Purohit is a senior leader of BJP and has been the Member of Parliament too.
