As Nagpur hypes on Smart City tag, many projects lying undone

smartcityNagpur: As Nagpur progresses on being called as the Smart City, a grim situation surfaces to alert civic officials to immediately conduct a reality check. Highly sustainable growth of the city appears a far fetched dream as many important projects vital for the city development are stuck for the lack of funds availability both from the Central and State governments.

Key projects hang balance
The pending projects include sewerage project in north Nagpur, rejuvenation of Nag, Pili and Pora rivers, Manish Nagar flyover, Ajni railway station flyover and Jaripatka flyover on railway track. The proposal of master plan of Rs120 crore of rejuvenation of Nag, Pili and Pora rivers flowing through city and DPR have been sent to Central government through State government. This proposal is also pending. New detailed plan has been prepared as per suggestion made by Central government.

JNNURM projects paced up
As Central government wrapped up Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission, the proposals of these important projects are pending. Atleast 12 out of 19 projects approved under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission have been completed. These include, Pench Phase-IV, stopping water leakage, water audit, electricity audit, boosting water supply system, construction of bridges on Kanhan and Kolar rivers, Mangalwari railway flyover, laying of 27.5 km long underground pipeline, underground road near Anand Talkies, construction of flyovers at Santra Market, Kalamna Market and Itwari railway station etc.

Sewerage project awaiting funds
As Nagpur gets 150 liter water per person every day, it creates 125 to 130 liter sewerage per person every day. City generates 450 MLD sewerage every day. As water supply to city is increasing every day, problem of polluted water would become serious in future. Due to this, sewerage project of Rs 491 crore has been proposed in north Nagpur. This has received approval from Central government. But this project is waiting for funds.
