Arun Jaitley Likely to Undergo Kidney Transplant Surgery Today at AIIMS Delhi

New Delhi: Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs Arun Jaitley was brought to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi on Wednesday afternoon for “finishing formalities for a donor kidney” ahead of a likely surgery.

Though AIIMS authorities refused to confirm the exact diagnosis or treatment plan, sources in the hospital said the Minister was brought in and that preparations were on for a possible kidney transplant.

A couple of years back, he underwent a gastric bypass surgery for diabetes management in a private hospital. He was at that time suffering from uncontrolled diabetes for nearly a decade.

He underwent a laproscopic procedure for weight loss. It involved stapling the stomach to create a small pouch so that a small amount of food helps satiate the appetite. This pouch is connected to the small intestine to lower fat absorption.

Mr. Jaitley tweeted later in the evening: “I am being treated for kidney related problems & certain infections that I have contracted. I am therefore currently working from controlled environment at home. The future course of my treatment would be determined by the doctors treating me.”
