Panchpaoli PSI Gawande attempts suicide after ACB nabs him red-handed at his home

IMG_3855Nagpur: In an early morning sensation, an Police Sub Inspector identified as Manish Gawande tried to commit suicide by shooting himself with his service revolver while he was being arrested by anti-corruption bureau sleuths for demanding bribe. Earlier it was learnt that Gawande fired at ACB sleuths who had caught him red-handed and were trying to arrest him.

Later ACB clarified that it was an attempt to kill self and as his wife pulled his hand, it eventually misfired. The led to the speculation that Gawande fired at ACB team, however this was not the case. No one was injured in the firing, a press release issued by ACB revealed.

Gawande had joined Pachpaoli Police Station as PSI one and a half years ago. He was residing with his family in the official quarter hit behind the Pachpaoli Police Station. Gawande had reportedly demanded a huge sum from a complainant who had approached him to resolve his matter.

IMG_3854However, the demanded amount being exorbitant and not within his reach, he approached the Anti Corruption Bureau. Even as the accused PSI was speaking on his mobile phone and making the deal, the cops of the ACB traced the number to his residence. However, just when they were entering the house to arrest him red-handed, the accused PSI tried to end his life but his wife quickly intervened and the bullet missed the target.

Later ACB has registered the offence of demanding bribe along with attempt to commit suicide. Immediately on receipt of information, all the higher officials of Nagpur city police including Deputy Commissioner of Police Latkar and In-Charge of Pachpaoli Police Station PI Nikam reached the Pachpaoli Police Station.

Till the time of filing the story, the accused API Manish Gawande has been taken to Hyderabad House in Civil Lines for further investigation.
