Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing a public gathering in Secunderabad, Telangana, spoke about the serious impact of the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine on India’s economy and energy security.
Highlighting the growing pressure on India’s foreign exchange reserves and rising crude oil prices, PM Modi appealed to citizens to avoid purchasing gold for weddings for the next one year. He said India spends a massive amount on gold imports every year, which increases the burden on the country during global economic uncertainty.
The Prime Minister also urged people to reduce petrol and diesel consumption by adopting carpooling, public transport, work-from-home culture, and online meetings wherever possible. He stressed that saving fuel has now become a national responsibility amid the global crisis.
PM Modi warned that escalating tensions in the Middle East have sharply increased crude oil prices, directly affecting import-dependent countries like India. He called on citizens to contribute towards economic stability by using resources responsibly and avoiding unnecessary expenditure.
