‘American Gandhi’ Bernie Meyer pays goodwill visit to NMC

Nagpur: Washington resident Bernie Meyer, regarded as ‘American Gandhi,’ on Monday paid a goodwill visit to Nagpur Municipal Corporation where he was received whole-heartedly by Mayor Pravin Datke. The Mayor welcomed Meyer by offering him a Tulsi sapling and a memento.

Deputy Chairperson of Law Committee Adv Rekha Barhate, Corporators Saraswati Salame, Sindhu Uike, Pushpa Nimje, Shila Mohod, Nimisha Shirke, Shila Tarale, Pradeep Pohne, Tanvir Ahmed and others were present on the occasion.

Bernie Meyer is inspired by Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi’s thoughts and ideals and since the 1967 Vietnam war he is working for world peace as ‘Justice and Peace Activist.’ Bernie Meyer has adopted ‘Abolition of Nuclear Weapons’ as his mission and striving and propagating it for success.

Speaking on the occasion, the ‘American Gandhi’ said that “It is my responsibility to spread Mahatma Gandhi’s message of truth, non-violence and love all over the world.” The Mayor Datke appreciated Bernie Meyer’s mission and extended his best wishes.

Similarly, Bernie Meyer was welcomed at the chamber of Leader of Opposition in NMC. Congress Corporator Suresh Jaggyasi welcomed Meyer by offering Tulsi sapling and a memento. Others who welcomed Bernie Meyer include Corporators Sanjay Mahakalkar, Tanvir Ahmed, Adv Rekha Barhate, Saraswati Salame, Sindhu Uike, Pushpa Nimje, Shila Mohod, Nimisha Shirke, Shila Tarale, Pradeep Pohne, and others.
