
Nagpur: The Social Security Department and Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) of Nagpur Crime Branch have arrested a 23-year-old man for allegedly arranging a woman for commercial sex and possessing MD drugs in the Ajni police station area.
The arrested accused has been identified as Manthan Gopal Thote (23), a resident of Chandramani Nagar, Gali No. 7, Ajni, Nagpur. Police have also named Kunal Yashwant Yelkar, a resident of Durga Nagar, Nagpur, as a wanted accused in the case.
According to police, the action was carried out on September 16, 2026, at around 6:55 pm, on a public road in front of the Hanuman Nagar Public Library in the Ajni area.
Police Use Decoy Customer
Police received information that the accused allegedly lured women and young women with promises of earning quick money and arranged customers for commercial sex.
Based on the information, the Social Security Department and AHTU team planned an operation using a decoy customer and two panch witnesses. During the operation, the accused allegedly arranged a consenting adult woman for the decoy customer, following which the police detained him.
3.610 Grams of MD Recovered
During a search, police allegedly recovered 3.610 grams of MD powder, valued at approximately ₹36,100. Police suspect the drug was allegedly kept for sale to a customer.
The search also led to the seizure of ₹1,500 in cash, an Activa scooter worth ₹60,000 and two mobile phones worth ₹21,000.
The total value of the seized property has been placed at ₹1,18,600.
Case Registered Under Multiple Laws
Following the operation, a case was registered at Ajni Police Station under Sections 143(2) and 143(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Sections 3, 4, 5 and 7 of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956, and Sections 8(a), 22(b) and 29 of the NDPS Act.
The arrested accused was handed over to Ajni Police for further legal proceedings. Police are searching for the wanted accused Kunal Yashwant Yelkar.
The investigation is also focused on the alleged sex-trade network, possible customers, the source of the MD and the role of other persons connected to the accused.
The operation was conducted by the Social Security Department and AHTU team under the guidance of Police Inspector Darshan Patil, Social Security Department, Nagpur Crime Branch. The complaint was filed by Police Head Constable Prakash Mathankar.
