Nagpur: Tension ran high in Nandanvan locality when a 70-year old woman set her ablaze in the dead of night at 0030 hours of Friday (January 8) in her house. The elderly woman died on the spot. The reason behind the frail woman taking such extreme step could not be ascertained immediately.
The deceased has been identified as Ratnakala Nashikrao Meshram, resident of Dharti Maa Society, Plot No. 21(B), Nandanvan area. Other family members were jolted to the core when Ratnakala, around 0030 hours of Friday, poured kerosene on her person and torched her. Ratnakala succumbed to burn injuries almost immediately. On being informed by Lokhaji Nashikrao Meshram (55), a team of Nandanvan police reached the spot and after completing the preliminary probe sent her body to Government Hospital for autopsy.
PSI S R Gajbhare has registered a case of accidental death and investigating the matter further from all angles.
