Nagpur: A rashly driven car knocked a 66-year old woman dead near Sakkardara Square on Thursday night. The unidentified driver of the car fled the spot along with his vehicle but cops are searching him on the basis of registration number.
A resident of Plot No. 72/1, Tupkar Square, Somwaripeth, the deceased has been identified as Sunanda Vijat Karandikar (66). According to complainant, Ankush Vijay Karandikar (22), his mother was going towards Sakkardara Square walking around 11.15 pm on Thursday. As she reached in front of Maratha Vidya Prasar Mandal, a recklessly driven Maruti Swift DeZire car (MH-34/7602) hit her forcefully. Sunanda suffered fatal injuries and died on the spot.
Sakkardara PSI Hiwarkar, based on Ankush Karandikar’s complaint, booked the unidentified driver of the car under Sections 279, 338, 304(A) of the IPC read with Sections 134, 177 of Motor Vehicles Act and searching for him on the basis of registration number of the car.
