Nagpur: The state school education ministry has decided to start the process of online admissions for the 25% quota under Right To Education (RTE) act in Nagpur division from February 9. In the first phase, schools coming under RTE will register online and enter the number of available seats. In the second phase, likely to start by February 23, parents can start filling applications online. Actual admission process will start in March.

Mahaveer Mane, director of primary education, was in Nagpur on Thursday to brief local officials on the process. It is expected that 25 help centres will be put up in the city itself. Mane, said, “Schools can start registering online and provide us with all the details. On this basis parents can then fill out the applications.”

About 450 schools in Nagpur district come under RTE purview and education officials will be contacting them asking them to start online registration online. An education official, said, “We have their data sorted out and the process of contacting schools will start tomorrow.”

The education department expects to get about 50,000 applications online and claims it is readying its infrastructure accordingly. “The exact number of seats available will be known after schools fill out their data, but we are estimating the figure to be around 10,000,” said another official.
