According to police, the accused Jiya was in an illicit relationship with the husband of Priti (24) (name changed). When Priti learnt about the relationship, she asked her husband to stay away from Jiya. Recently, when Priti met Jiya, she asked her, “Why did my husband fall in love with you, when I am more beautiful than you.” This irked Jiya and she decided to make Priti’s face ugly by throwing acid on her, police added.

Accused Jiya roped in her female friend to commit the crime. On Saturday morning, she phoned Priti as an anonymous caller and asked her to come to Kundanlal Gupta Nagar to know about her husband’s illicit relationship. When Priti was walking along Lane No. 1 of Kundanlal Gupta Nagar, Jiya and her accomplice came from behind on a two-wheeler and threw acid on her. Priti and her son sustained burn injuries on their faces. She started crying for help.

A large number of onlookers gathered at the spot and informed Priti’s family members about the incident. Both were taken to the GMCH for treatment, the police added. The Yashodhara Nagar Police received the information from the hospital. The police staff went to the hospital and recorded her statement.

Police said that involvement of Jiya was confirmed on the basis of the mobile phone number and the CCTV footage. The accused have been booked under Section 326 (1) of Indian Penal Code.
