Acid Attack On College girl In Jaripatka

Nagpur: A woman allegedly threw acid on a 23-year-old neighbour at the busy market at Kapil Nagar in Jaripatka area on Wednesday evening. The victim, identified as Preeti Kuwar, 23, is out of danger but suffered slight burns on her back.

On Kuwar’s complaint, Jaripatka police have booked alleged accused Sangmitra Chauhan, a resident of Kapil Nagar, and arrested her.

Police said that Kuwar, a BEd student at a Ramtek college, stays with her aunt at Kapil Nagar. A year ago, Chauhan’s husband had left her and she had been staying alone since then. “Chauhan suspects Kuwar and her aunt were responsible for her separation from her husband. Since then, Chauhan would regularly pick up quarrels with Kuwar and her aunt, and threatened dire consequences,” police said.

On Wednesday evening, while Kuwar and her aunt were at the market, Chauhan poured an acidic liquid on Kuwar’s back. Another woman noticed Kuwar’s clothes burning and raised an alarm. The victim was immediately rushed to a private hospital and police were also informed. On the victim’s statement, police arrested Chauhan. Police said they have sent a sample to find out what acid was used by Chauhan.
