Accidental death of youth turns murder, accused arrested within 24 hours

Nagpur: The case of accidental death of a 25-year old youth has turned out to be a gruesome murder. Subsequently, a 28-year old man has been arrested within 24 hours.

According to police, the youth Soma Gautam Kalbande, resident of Pandharabodi, near Shitala Mata Mandir, was found dead around 11.30 pm on Wednesday. Body of Soma was found lying near Pawar Kirana Stores in Pandharabodi area itself. On the basis of Shivkala Kalbande’s information, Ambazari police had registered a case of accidental death and investigating the matter further.

During the course of thorough investigation, it got revealed that the accused Mahesh Gangaram Verma (28), resident of Jai Nagar, Hill Top area, had an old rivalry running with the deceased Soma Kalbande. The accused Mahesh got an opportunity to settle the score when he saw Soma alone near the kirana shop. After a heated exchange of words, Mahesh attacked and pushed Soma on the ground and sat on his chest. Later, with the help of ‘Gamchha’ (scarf), the accused Mahesh strangulated Soma to death. Now, the Ambazari cops converted the case of accidental death into murder case and booked the accused Mahesh Verma under Section 302 of the IPC. The cops succeeded in arresting the accused within 24 hours of the murder.
