Nagpur: An employee from a Tehsil office in Nagpur district has been arrested for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 1.05 lakh to update some land records, an official said on Thursday.
Ajay Pandurang Khobragade, 50, is a Circle Officer at the Tehsil office in the Umred area, said the official from the Anti-Corruption Bureau.
According to officials, the complainant had purchased agricultural land in Rajurwadi village. Since he did not have a farmer’s certificate, he approached the Tehsil office to update the land registration.
Khobragade allegedly demanded Rs 1.05 lakh to get the work done, said the ACB official.
After the complainant approached the ACB, the anti-graft agency first verified the complaint and then laid a trap on Wednesday. An ACB team caught Khobragade red-handed as he accepted the bribe amount, the official said.
A case is being registered against the accused at Wathoda police station under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Meanwhile, his house is being searched, the official added.
The operation was executed under the supervision of Sagar Kavade, Superintendent of Police, Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Nagpur Range, and Sachin Kadam, Additional Superintendent of Police, ACB, Nagpur.
The trap and investigation were led by Vaishali Vairagade, Deputy Superintendent of Police (ACB), and Vaishali Athawale, Police Inspector, ACB Nagpur.
The trap team includes Police Inspector Ravindra Sahare, Head Constables Asmita Mallewar and Vandana Nagrale, Assistant Police Inspectors Amol Meghre and Anil Bahire and Constables Sachin Channe and Vijay Solanke (All from the Anti-Corruption Bureau, Nagpur)
The coordinated effort by the ACB team ensured the successful execution of the operation.
