ACB traps PSI of Rana Pratap Nagar Police Station

In what could be termed as turn of events, a Police Sub Inspector who had demanded an exorbitant amount as bribe to spare action against the complainant Doctor, was apprehended by the Anti Corruption Bureau officials on March 10, 2015.

According to sources, the complainant identified as Dr Ritesh Haribhau Girade, MBBS, MD owned and was running the Life Care Hospital. The accused identified as Police Sub Inspector Praveen Rajaram Ghodam of Rana Pratap Nagar Police Station had approached him and had threatened that the Doctor is liable to be penalized for having an illegal operation theatre in his hospital. The accused PSI is alleged to have demanded a bribe of Rupees ten lakhs for not taking any penal action.

The accused Police Sub Inspector Praveen Rajaram Ghodam had allegedly accepted Rupees three lakhs as the first installment. He then started demanding the remaining Rupees seven lakhs.

However, irked by this demand for an exorbitant bribe, the doctor lodged a complaint with the Anti Corruption Bureau. The officials of the ACB laid a trap and when the Doctor went to deliver the bribe money, the accused Police Sub Inspector Praveen asked the Doctor to hand over the  bribe to a conduit identified as Suraj Lolge aged 29 years and a resident of Bhamti, Trimurti Nagar.

The ACB officials arrested the conduit Suraj Lolge red-handed with the bribe money of Rs five lakhs. On questioning, the conduit Suraj Lolge confessed that he was accepting the bribe money on behalf of the accused Police Sub Inspector Praveen Rajaram Ghodam.

The Anti Corruption Bureau officials included Police Inspector Shete and Deputy Superintendent of Police Kolwadkar.
