Nagpur: The two-wheeler rider, who went absconding after attacking a Traffic Police constable murderously on Friday, was arrested on Saturday morning. The arrested accused Suryakant Arun Vyas has booked under Section 307 (attempt to murder) and other relevant sections of the IPC.

Notably, in a shocking incident, the Naik Police Constable with Traffic Control Branch Prakash Barange was attacked brutally when pulled-up the two-wheeler rider Suryakant Vyas for alleged drunken driving near Mayo Hospital on Friday night. Barange along with other cops from South Zone of Traffic Control Branch were on the drive to check drunken driving at Santra Market.

They stopped Vyas, a resident of Deekshabhoomi Quarters. Barange, thereafter, escorted Vyas on latter’s two wheeler towards Ahimsa Square as the breath analyzer machine was with other police team. However, as the traffic constable was wounding his way from Mayo Hospital, Vyas suddenly got into action which caused the bike to shake and the cop fell down. Vyas quickly pounced on Barange and assaulted him with stones, hitting him on head and chest. After a few minutes Vyas fled the spot. Another police constable Rewatkar was following NPC Barange and he reached there only to see the ghastly scene. He immediately relayed the information to senior officers who came rushing to the spot.

After the brutal attack, cops had mounted a hunt of absconding Vyas and succeeded in arresting him on Saturday as constable Rewatkar had confiscated Vyas’s driving license and this led to his identification.
