Absconding convict traced and arrested after 24 years

Nagpur: In a major success, Nandanvan police traced and arrested an accused who was convicted under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and awarded life imprisonment but was absconding since 1992. The Crime Branch sleuths and Detection Branch (DB) Squad of Nandanvan Police Station were on the hot trail of the absconding convict Ramchandra Motiram Meshram, noe aged 60. Head Constable Vilas Chobitkar was specifically assigned the job to trace the convict. Displaying alacrity, the Head Constable approached the Spanco (SNDL) and obtained the new address of Meshram from the power company. Armed with the new address, the cops zeroed on the absconding convict and apprehended him. The cops tasted the success of arresting him after long 24 years.

A case under Section 224 was registered against the accused Ramchandra Motiram Meshram in 1992 and his residential address registered at that time was Ayachit Mandir, near Lakdapul Nallah under Kotwali Police Station jurisdiction. However, his present address on SNDL record was Padole Nagar, Nandanvan from where he was arrested.

PSI Ingale and Police Constable Bajrang assisted Head Constable Vilas Chobitkar in his pursuit of the absconding convict under the guidance of PI Mahadik.
