In a major operation, Income Tax Department on Tuesday (December 2) raided offices, establishments and residences of developers, medicine and steel traders across Nagpur. About 10-12 teams of Income Tax Department simultaneously raided offices, establishments and residences in Sitabuldi, Ghat Road, Sadar and other parts in the morning and reportedly seized important and incriminating documents. The documents are being scanned to find out tax evasion.
According to sources, the Income Tax sleuths raided developers in Sitabuldi and Sadare areas, a steel trader in Ghat Road area and a medicine dealer in Sitabuldi. The raids were being carried under the watchful eyes of city police. The raids reportedly began at 7 in the morning and led to chaos in business circles. In a well-planned strategy, the Income Tax officials reached the premises in the fleets of private cars to dodge information and take the parties by surprise.
However, the Income Tax Department has not divulged details of the documents seized from the raiding places. The operation was going on till the filing of this report.
