
In the drive that was undertaken on November 18, 2014, the number of drunken drivers who were apprehended stood at 16, while the number of those driving under the influence of liquor on November 17, 2014 was 25.

Special drive to check drunken driving
According to law, any motor vehicle driver who has alcohol content exceeding 30 mg per 100 ml of blood as detected by a breath analyzer is liable for punishment under the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988. The results of the test would be generated on the spot and produced as evidence in court. DCP Tangde while speaking to Nagpur Today told that they have 3 new Breath Analyzers in February 2014. These equipments are advanced and more powerful. He added that he has equipped the traffic cops to intensify the patrolling and checking errant drivers during late night hours.
Fines and punishments
Drunken drivers were liable for imprisonment for six months and a fine of Rs. 2,000 for the first offence and up to two years imprisonment and fine up to Rs.3,000 for a subsequent offence. The court could cancel the driving license of the offender and licensing authority could suspend or revoke the license.
DCP Tangde said all the Traffic branches of police stations in the city would now be given the equipment to check the menace of drunken driving. He advised those who were compelled to drink at social gatherings to arrange for someone, who was not drunk, to drive the vehicle for them after the party.
