During the drive, 193 four-wheelers were booked under Section 100(2) of Central Motor Vehicles Act 1989 and the Solar and other dark or black films were removed from glasses of the vehicles. The drive will continue in coming days also with heavy deployment of Traffic police officials and personnel.
Nagpur News: The new Traffic Department boss DCP Ashok S Tangde (IPS), while talking with Nagpur Today after taking charge on Wednesday (April 2), had said that he has ordered his men to firmly act against the four-wheeler owners who have still not removed the tinted glasses covered by Solar and other Dark or Black films in accordance with the Supreme Court directives in this respect. And his men did the same on Thursday (April 3).

Despite busy in bandobast in view of VIP, VVIP visits to the city for Lok Sabha poll campaigning, the Traffic policemen undertook a drive against four-wheeler owners who were found roaming with tinted glasses covered by Solar and other Dark or Black films on their vehicles. During the drive, 193 four-wheelers were booked under Section 100(2) of Central Motor Vehicles Act 1989 and the Solar and other dark or black films were removed from glasses of the vehicles. The drive will continue in coming days also with heavy deployment of Traffic police officials and personnel, a press release issued by Nagpur Police said.
The Traffic Department has appealed the four-wheeler owners to immediately get rid of solar and black films from their vehicles to avoid stern action.
It may be recalled, Nagpur Today had on April 2 flashed a report titled: “DCP Traffic, Tangde directs 4-wheeler owners to remove black glasses or face stricter action” wherein it was reported the Traffic Department of Nagpur Police got its regular chief after a long period when DCP Ashok S Tangde (IPS) took the charge. DCP Tangde made his priorities very clear in equally clear words to streamline the chaotic and hazardous city traffic. And one of his first steps in that direction, the DCP put the four-wheelers of all kind on notice. He has directed his men to firmly act against the four-wheeler owners who have still not removed the tinted glasses covered by Solar and other Dark or Black films in accordance with the Supreme Court directives in this respect. (As per recent Supreme Court judgment, the use of black films of any VLT (Visual Light Transmission) percentage or any other material upon the safety glasses, windscreens (front and rear) and side glasses of all vehicles throughout India is prohibited. Even though it may have been fit by car vendor or local mechanic, it is illegal and must be removed at the earliest).
While speaking to Nagpur Today, DCP Tangde said that the Police Department has already issued notices to all the vendors selling and installing black and solar films to adhere to rules and regulations. He has appealed all the citizens who own four-wheelers and those who have black or solar films pasted on their windows to remove them immediately or face action as the Traffic Department is launching a special drive in this connection from April 3, 2014. The vendors of the films will be deployed to remove the films and a penalty in terms of fines will be levied on the vehicle owners who continue to have the films on their vehicles.
Let us hope the new DCP Traffic lives up to his word and irons out the creases and ensures a smooth vehicular movement in the city.
