Alerted by Mahad tragedy, cops divert heavy traffic on dilapidated Kanhan river bridge

Nagpur: Alerted by the collapse of a British-era bridge over Savitri River near Mahad on Mumbai-Goa National Highway which resulted in scores of deaths, Nagpur Rural Police have diverted the heavy traffic on the dilapidated Kanhan River Bridge till the repair work is completed. The bridge over Kanhan River has worn out and could collapse anytime. If the tragedy were to take place, casualties could be in massive proportions. With the perilous situation in mind, the Kanhan police have diverted the heavy traffic passing through the bridge during the period of repair and other works.

Following is the diversion:

  • Heavy vehicles coming from Chhindwara Road and Amravati Road will pass through Mankapur Square, Jaripatka Ring Road, Maruti Showroom Square, Chikhli Square, Old Pardi Post Square, Kapsi Flyover, take right turn to Outer Ring Road, Tekdi Bypass. Similarly, heavy vehicles coming from Jabalpur Road, will ply on the same route.
  • Heavy vehicles and local trucks from Kamptee Town will ply through Anjani T-Point, Anjani Village, Gada Village, Rangari Dhaba, Outer Ring Road.
  • Heavy vehicles coming from Wardha Road will be diverted through Kapsi Flyover, right turn towards Outer Ring Road, Tekdi Bypass. Similarly, heavy vehicles coming from Jabalpur Road, will ply on the same route.

The traffic diversion will come into force from Saturday (August 20) and will be in force till the repair work is completed.
