
Nagpur: A 48-year-old man was stabbed to death following a road accident that triggered a violent altercation in the Kapil Nagar area of Nagpur, police said.
According to police, the complainant, Pintu Suresh Rajput (32), a resident of Nari Vasti near Ganesh Mandir, had gone for a picnic to Mansar with his friends on October 25, 2025. After returning to Nagpur, Rajput dropped two of his friends near Takshila Ghat and was heading home in his car along with another friend, Rajesh Ishwas Orekar (48), also a resident of Nari Vasti.
Between 9.30 pm and 10 pm, when they reached near Building No. 10 in MHADA Colony, close to a water tank in Kapil Nagar police station limits, their car allegedly collided with a parked e-rickshaw, causing damage to the vehicle.
Following the accident, the owner of the e-rickshaw began arguing with Rajput. During the dispute, four men identified as Harshal, Tabba, Lucky and Rabha, along with their associates, reached the spot and allegedly started assaulting Rajput and Orekar.
Police said Orekar attempted to flee from the spot, but the accused chased him and allegedly attacked him with a knife with the intention to kill. He sustained serious injuries in the assault. The injured Orekar was immediately rushed to a hospital for treatment, where doctors examined him and declared him dead.
Based on the complaint lodged by Rajput, Kapil Nagar Police registered a case against the accused under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) along with provisions of the Maharashtra Police Act.
During the parallel investigation, officers from the Crime Branch Unit-2 received credible information that two suspects involved in the crime were present near Dhargaon on Jabalpur Bypass Road in Nagpur. Acting on the tip-off, the police laid a trap and apprehended two accused, Kalpesh Suraj Rabha (22), a resident of Gaikwad Layout on Nari Road, and Nipin alias Honey Deepak Thakur (26), a resident of Guru Tegbahadur Nagar on Nari Road.
During interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed to committing the crime in conspiracy with their associates. Police said both had been absconding since the incident.
Two mobile phones worth around Rs 18,000 were seized from their possession. The accused have been handed over to Kapil Nagar Police along with the seized property for further legal action.
Further investigation in the case is underway.
