
Nagpur: In a tragic hit-and-run incident, a 75-year-old woman lost her life after being knocked down by a speeding Bolero vehicle on Nagpur-Amravati Road under Wadi police limits.
The deceased, Shantabai Ganpat Andhe (75), a resident of Ajay Nagar, was crossing the road on Sunday between 1 pm and 1:30 pm to reach a nearby sugarcane juice stall when the accident occurred.
Police said a grey Bolero, driven in a rash and negligent manner, rammed into the elderly woman with great force, leaving her critically injured. The driver fled the spot immediately after the accident without offering any help. The victim was rushed to Sengupta Hospital, where doctors declared her dead during treatment.
Following a complaint lodged by her daughter, Usha Vinod Chaudhary (45), Wadi Police have registered a case against the unidentified Bolero driver under sections related to rash driving, causing death by negligence, and provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.
Police have launched a search to trace the absconding accused. Further investigation is in progress.
