
Nagpur: In a swift patrolling operation, Crime Branch Unit No. 5 of Nagpur Police apprehended a juvenile in conflict with law for allegedly carrying a deadly weapon with suspected intent to commit a cognizable offence in the Kapil Nagar area on Thursday afternoon.
According to police, between 12.28 pm and 3.30 pm on February 12, the Crime Branch team was conducting routine patrolling within the jurisdiction of Kapil Nagar Police Station when they noticed a suspicious minor loitering behind the Bal Sudhar Gruh at Angulimal Nagar. On being questioned, the juvenile reportedly attempted to flee. However, alert officers chased and detained him.
During a search conducted in the presence of panch witnesses, police recovered a large iron knife concealed inside the waistband of his trousers. The seized weapon is valued at approximately Rs 1,000.
Upon further interrogation, the juvenile allegedly confessed to breaking into a paan thela at Kapil Nagar Chowk a week ago and committing theft. Verification of police records confirmed that a non-cognizable offence had indeed been registered at Kapil Nagar Police Station in connection with the break-in.
Police seized the knife along with Rs 100 in cash from the juvenile’s possession, totalling property worth Rs 1,100.
As the minor was found carrying a weapon allegedly with intent to commit a cognizable offence and in violation of prohibitory orders, a case has been registered against him under Sections 4 and 25 of the Arms Act along with Section 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act at Kapil Nagar Police Station.
The juvenile has been handed over to Kapil Nagar Police for further legal action. Investigation is underway.
