The trio had barely progressed on their journey from Mohpa when a tipper (MH-40/BG-7750), allegedly driven at a reckless speed, rammed into their two-wheeler with devastating force.

The impact was so violent that all three were flung into the air before crashing onto the road. Bhiwankar bore the brunt of the collision and died on the spot. Janu, grievously injured, was rushed by passers-by to the Rural Hospital in Umrer. However, doctors declared her dead on arrival. Vanshu miraculously survived with minor injuries, left traumatised by the horrifying sight.

The double tragedy, a father escorting his daughter to her board examination, only to lose their lives within moments, sent shockwaves through the area.

As news of the mishap spread, grief quickly turned into anger. Traffic came to a standstill as people gathered at the accident site. The tipper driver was dragged out of the vehicle and allegedly thrashed by an enraged mob. In a further escalation, the crowd broke open the diesel tank of the vehicle and set the tipper on fire. By the time police arrived, flames had engulfed the truck.

Superintendent of Police Dr Harssh Poddar, SDPO Vrushti Jain and PI Dhanaji Jalak rushed to the scene to take stock of the situation. Additional police forces were deployed to prevent further escalation and to calm the agitated villagers.

The tragic loss of a young life on the threshold of her future, and a father whose only intent was to ensure his daughter reached her examination hall safely, has cast a pall of sorrow over Mohpa and Umrer. The incident has once again raised serious concerns over reckless heavy vehicle driving and road safety enforcement on busy rural stretches.
