Dr. Dipen Agrawal, President – Chamber of Associations of Maharashtra Industry & Trade (CAMIT), called upon the newly appointed Pannan Sangchalak – State Market Director, Shri Sanjay Kadam, and extended warm congratulations on his assuming charge.
During the meeting, Dr. Agrawal apprised Shri Kadam of several pressing issues concerning the Agricultural Produce Market Committees (APMCs) across Maharashtra. Key matters discussed included:
• Rationalisation of Market Fees:
CAMIT highlighted the urgent need to streamline and simplify the existing market fee structure to reduce the burden on traders and farmers, ensure better realisation for farmers, promote transparency, and achieve uniform implementation across all APMCs.
• Review of APMC Cess and Multiple Levies:
The delegation expressed concern over the multiple cess-related levies being imposed by various market committees, creating confusion, increasing transaction costs, and adversely affecting price competitiveness. CAMIT urged a comprehensive review to ensure uniformity, fairness, and ease of doing business.
• Elimination of Illegal Check Posts by Market Committees:
CAMIT raised the issue of unauthorised check posts being operated by certain market yard committees, leading to harassment, delays, and unofficial collections from traders and transporters. The delegation requested immediate and strict action to curb these unlawful practices.
• Upgradation of Market Yard Infrastructure:
CAMIT emphasised the need for urgent improvement of infrastructure in market yards, including better internal roads, sheds, sanitation, digital weighing systems, and enhanced logistical facilities to ensure smoother trade and improved market competitiveness.
Dr. Dipen Agrawal conveyed that addressing these issues will significantly strengthen Maharashtra’s agricultural supply chain and benefit farmers, traders, and consumers alike. Shri Sanjay Kadam gave a patient and positive hearing, assuring that the concerns raised by CAMIT will be duly examined and necessary actions will be taken in the interest of all stakeholders.
CAMIT looks forward to continued cooperation with the State Market Department to bring meaningful reforms for the welfare of the agricultural trade ecosystem across Maharashtra.
