Nagpur: Bharti Fulmali was Vidarbha’s lone player to be picked in the 2026 WPL mega auction that was held in New Delhi on Thursday. Bharti, with a base price of Rs 30 lakh, was initially taken by Mumbai Indians for Rs 45lakh. Gujarat Giants used their Right To Match (RTM) card and even though MI raised the bid to Rs 70 lakh, GG matched it to bag Bharti.

Bharti was the lone Vidarbha player to feature in WPL 2025.The big-hitting middle-order batter, in her second season with Gujarat Giants, compelled attention with two stellar knocks. Her unbeaten 40 (6×2, 4×4) off 29 balls against the Delhi Capitals came in a winning cause. She fared even better against the Mumbai Indians.

It was heartbreak for seven other Vidarbha players who went unsold. Vidarbha skipper Disha Kasat and left-arm seamer Komal Zanzad, who were part of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru outfit a season ago, were ignored along with former India player Mona Meshram, Kanchan Nagwani, Arya Gohane, Gargi Wankar and Latika Inamdar.

More than 270 players registered for the auction and the five teams had up to 73 slots to fill, including 23 for overseas players. UP Warriorz and Gujarat Giants went into the auction with the highest purse.

For Vidarbha, Bharti’s rise offers a much-needed boost. Her success is being viewed as a pathway moment for young girls in the region eyeing professional cricket.
