Nagpur: On Sunday mornings, when most people are relaxing, you’ll find a single person busy picking up trash in the Civil Lines area. Every Sunday, he carefully collects the garbage from the roadside into a bag and takes it to the dustbin. This small, consistent action is inspiring many and is a huge help in keeping Nagpur clean and green.

Dr. Kumar Nirbhay is a doctor for the Central Railway, but he is also dedicated to improving the health of Nagpur city. This is his weekly habit. Every Sunday morning, he treats cleaning the street between Bole Petrol Pump and Tirpude College like an important duty. His simple plan for a clean city is: ‘Everyone, 100 meters – Every Sunday.’ He simply sees it as his duty as a citizen to keep the city clean.

Most people ignore the plastic bottles, bags, and broken glass on the streets. But Dr. Nirbhay has promised himself to pick up this litter every Sunday. He wears gloves, uses a litter picker stick, and carries a plastic bag. He quietly goes out and starts cleaning.

Some college students noticed Dr. Nirbhay’s work and decided to join him. He encouraged them to clean the streets near their own homes. Now, these students are also helping make Nagpur cleaner. Dr. Nirbhay’s simple act is now inspiring a movement.

“Cleanliness Belongs to All of Us” – Dr. Kumar Nirbhay

Dr. Nirbhay says that keeping Nagpur clean is not just the job of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation. Citizens create the garbage, so citizens are also responsible for getting rid of it properly. He believes that if everyone commits to cleaning just 100 meters around their home every Sunday, Nagpur will quickly become a healthy, clean city.

Great Example for Everyone – Dr. Abhijeet Chaudhari

Dr. Abhijeet Chaudhari, Municipal commissioner and Administrator of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), praised Dr. Nirbhay. He said that keeping the city clean is everyone’s responsibility, and Dr. Nirbhay is helping the city reach its goal with this act of social commitment. Dr. Chaudhari called Dr. Nirbhay’s initiative a “great example” for everyone. He urged everyone to participate in the simple effort: ‘Everyone, 100 meters – Every Sunday.’
