Nagpur: Winter has arrived ahead of schedule this year, catching the city off guard. On Sunday, Nagpur recorded a minimum temperature of 10.8°C — the lowest so far this season. What makes this more striking is that November is only halfway through, yet the kind of chill usually felt in December has already set in.
Early morning hours saw icy winds and light fog across several parts of the city, disrupting daily routines. Two-wheeler riders and people heading out for early shifts struggled the most as the sudden drop in temperature made commuting tough. In many neighborhoods, residents lit bonfires to beat the cold.
According to the Meteorological Department, the steep fall in temperature is due to dry, cold winds sweeping in from northern India. Weather experts predict that the chill could intensify in the coming days. If the skies remain clear and wind patterns stay unchanged, temperatures may dip even further.
Winter Wear Markets Packed as Demand Surges
The cold spell has also changed the scene in local markets. Over the weekend, clothing shops witnessed heavy footfall. Sales of jackets, sweaters, mufflers, and woolen caps spiked sharply. Popular shopping hubs such as Sitabuldi, Dharampeth, and Mahal remained crowded throughout the day. The Tibetan market in Ganeshpeth also drew thousands of shoppers looking for affordable winter wear.
Nagpur’s winter seems to be settling in early, and traders, commuters, and residents are bracing for an even colder week ahead.
