Woman steals gold ornaments worth Rs 2.16 lakh from jewellery shop in Itwari

Nagpur: A woman posing as a customer allegedly stole a gold mangalsutra worth Rs 2.16 lakh from a jewellery shop in Itwari on Wednesday, prompting Tehsil Police to register a case and launch a search for the accused.

According to police, complainant Mohammad Tosif Mohammad Arif Opai (39), a resident of Chandralok Building, Tehsil, Nagpur, owns Abdul Ahad Jewellers located near Sai Bakery in the Tehsil police station limits. On November 13, 2025, Tosif had gone to Jaffar Nagar to inspect the construction work at his house, leaving the shop in the care of his employee Jamil Sheikh (38) and other staff members.

Between 11:15 am and 11:30 am, an unidentified woman, around 45 years old, entered the shop claiming she wanted to purchase gold ornaments. While Jamil showed her various jewellery pieces, she allegedly distracted the staff and quietly slipped away with a gold mangalsutra weighing 11 grams and a 7-gram locket, together valued at Rs 2,16,000.

After Tosif learned about the theft, he approached Tehsil Police and filed a complaint. Based on his statement, Sub-Inspector Shahakar registered an FIR against the unidentified woman under Section 380(2) of the BNS for theft.
