Inter-Collegiate Athletics: Nagpur’s Sanyogita breaks 39-year old record

Nagpur: Sanyogita Misar of SB City College, Nagpur, broke 39-year-old women’s 100m hurdles record while Mitali Bhoyar and Gaurav Khodatkar picked their second gold medals in the Inter-Collegiate Annual Athletics meet on synthetic track of Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) on Thursday. Sanyogita carved out a time of 16.12seconds to better the old record of 18 seconds that was achieved by Dhanwate National College’s Chitra Gandhe (Pantawane) way back in 1986.

Parmesha Nagpure (19.10 secs) of Hislop College and Aditi Bidwaik of Dr AIMR College (19.11) took the second and third spots respectively. Incidentally, Sanyogita trains under Avinash Pantawane, husband of late Chitra. Both Chakrapani College’s Mitali and Gaurav of Arts Commerce Night College, who won 1500m gold on the opening day with new meet records, bagged their second gold medals in as many days taking honours in the 5000m run for women and men respectively.

Mitali clocked 17:22.08 and was followed by Bhagyashri Mahalle (18:32.54) of Priyadarshini College and Tejaswini Lambkane (19:49.59) from JMPC Bhandara. Gaurav (15:00.23) won the race ahead of Nikhar Bhalavi (Dr MW PWS College 15:11.19) and Rohit Patle (AD Bharsingi 16:04.84).

Long jump (women): Ritu (Nashikrao Tirpude CPE, Nagpur 5.23m; Swati Uikey (Samarth MV, Lakhani 4.98); Anushka Bodile (CMS, Nagpur 4.68m).

20000m Walk (Men): Kartikdas Katikhaya (Bhiwapur MV, Bhiwapur 1 hr 52min 41.63 sec). 4x100m Relay (Mix): Dhanashri, Saurav, Tejaswini, Aniket (CMS 49.24 secs); Saniya, Chandan, Jyoti, Devraj (JCPE, Nagpur 51.35 secs); Ritu Khudsam, Badali, Minal, Kalash (NMD, Gondia 53.96).

110m Hurdles (Men): Sachin Kanathiya (Gulam Nabi Azad 20.83), Niraj Baid (Priyadarshini 21.36), Sahil Nikone (Anjuman College 22.16).

Long jump (Men): Sumedh Kale (SK Porwal 6.89), Krish Warthe (NPW, Lakhni 6.46),Kirit (JCPE, Nagpur 6.45).
