Nagpur: A gang of drunken youths carrying swords, knives, and sticks created terror in the Hudco Colony area of Jaripatka on Sunday night. The gang broke the glasses of nearly two dozen vehicles and created panic in the area. The police have taken some of the accused into custody including minors.
Notorious goon Ayush Meshram alias Malleya, having 36 offences, including the stringent Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities (MPDA) Act, was instrumental behind damaging around a dozen vehicles, including four two-wheelers, to vent his wrath after the humiliation of his gang member at Hudco Colony.
Malleya and his gang, most having wrapped their faces, went on a damaging spree in Hudco Colony with sticks, rods, baseball bats and so on. It’s learnt that Malleya wanted to avenge the thrashing of his close aide Pawan by the residents of Hudco Colony.
Most of the residents were inside their homes at the time, with only a few women sitting in the courtyard talking. The group started damaging parked vehicles while shouting and abusing. They broke the glasses of the vehicles parked on the road. The sudden attack created panic among the residents, who came out of their homes to see what was happening. However, the accused fled the scene before locals could gather.
The incident was reported to the police control room, and the Police Inspector of Jaripatka, Santosh Bakal, arrived on the spot with his team. DCP Zone V Anurag Jain also reached the spot and took information from the people. The police immediately started searching for the accused and scanned the footage from all the CCTV cameras in the surrounding area. The information about involvement of the group of youths from the Indora area came to light, and the police detained 6-7 of them, including three minors. Upon investigation, it was discovered that all of them were heavily drunk.
An offence was registered at Jaripatka police station. Around 10, including some minors, were rounded up by Jaripatka police after CP Amitesh Kumar urged cops to initiate stringent action against the gang.
Further investigation is underway.
